Education
Ensuring that children and young people have access to quality education is priority for us, we support our villages with a variety of educational services, designed to develop life, employment and leadership skills. This can be in the form of in school learning, vocational training, equipment or infrastructure. We also build awareness in the children’s communities about why education is important.

After-School Study Centres
After-School Study Centres provide academic support and a
safe learning environment, which results in improved educational outcomes and increased student confidence. The Study Centres are staffed by qualified teachers and sometimes our volunteers who can provide additional language classes or outdoor sports activities. We also provide nutritious snacks to encourage regular attendance and improved concentration.
Vocational Training
Vocational training can build valuable skills for education as well as employment.
We have provided the young people in the villages that we cover with computer training.
For many reasons it is not always possible for young people, and particularly young women, to complete their school, college or university education. Working closely with Government and with the long-term support of donors, we have developed a vocational training programme, supporting younger women to develop sewing skills that will help them to secure jobs in the garment industry.
School equipment
To support school attendance, we provide a variety of equipment to schools: computers, books for libraries, school packs. Each school pack contains two sets of school uniform, shoes, school bag, stationery and notebooks. We also provide bicycles to help the children get to school and school sports equipment.

Community support
We build awareness and encourage advocacy in the wider community so that parents, family and friends support their young people’s education, and encourage the community to get involved.
This could be repairing and furnishing an existing community building for educational use, or constructing a building to support student and community activities. It could be improving existing facilities such as water supply, toilets and rainwater harvesting. We work with the Village Development Committees (VDC) who are made up of village representatives to lead initiatives for example creative painting, reinforcing community ownership and creating a child-friendly learning environment.
